Hello, this is Mayor Sheila Dixon.
President Obama and Congress have moved swiftly to address these troubling economic times with the passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The Recovery Act will create or save 3.5 million jobs nationwide over the next few years, and will provide funds for transit projects, infrastructure improvements, affordable housing and school modernization, as well as increased funding for workforce training and public safety.
Maryland is expected to receive $3.8 billion dollars from the Recovery Act. Preliminary estimates show that 66,000 jobs will be created or saved across the State. As Mayor, I am committed to working with our State and Federal partners to maximize the dollars and jobs available from the Recovery Act for Baltimore’s residents.
I have created a multi-agency Economic Recovery Team that will coordinate, maximize, and monitor the funds that will come to Baltimore through the Recovery Act. This website will provide progress reports on not only the uses of funding and resources flowing to the City, but also the outcomes we achieve, including how we are linking our residents to jobs.
Please come back to this website often for updates on the progress Baltimore’s Economic Recovery Team is making on behalf of all our City’s residents.
Thank you.
